In the past year, Danish Crown has increased exports to the attractive Australian market where domestic production has fallen by up to a third, primarily due to increasing feed prices as a result of severe drought. This has forced many Australian farmers to stop producing pork, and opened up an interesting market for foreign slaughterhouses. Food safety standards are high in Australia, and Danish Crown’s high food hygiene standards therefore put the company at an advantage.
